  • canonharry : 3 deep kick offs 1 chase 1half hearted missed tackle. Slosaan at this level please go and watch Faf tackle and commit , not good enough
  • canonharry : 4 Blindside box kicks 4 pathetic halfharted non commiitted chases by Skosaan !!!
  • Goofy : I think we should put pressure on 9 & 10 to cut off the access to the backs
  • Goofy : 15. Lwazi Mvovo, 14. Odwa Ndungane, 13. S’bura Sithole, 12. Frans Steyn, 11. JP Pietersen, 10. Fred Zeilinga, 9. Charl McLeod, 8. Ryan Kankowski, 7. Jean Deysel, 6. Marcell Coetzee, 5. Stephan Lewies, 4. Willem Alberts, 3. Jannie du Plessis, 2. Bismarck du Plessis (captain), 1. Tendai Mtawarira Substitutes: 16. Kyle Cooper, 17. Dale Chadwick, 18. Lourens Adriaanse, 19. Etienne Oosthuizen, 20. Keegan Daniel, 21. Stefan Ungerer, 22. Paul Jordaan, 23. SP Marais
  • Goofy : Sharks team for saterday.
  • Muttley : I see that VOX is an associate sponser now
  • Mr-T : @mutley, according to SARugby.net, Guy played reserve 9, so seems like Bondesio again did not play.
  • Muttley : Our of weekend comes just in time. Does anybody know how Jantjies, Hollenbach, Bondisio and Boeboes palyed in the Vodacom Cup match. I know we lost but eould like to know if it looked like they are ready?
  • James : Hallo guys! Another win for THE LIONS! Does anybody have any more details regarding the supporters payments because I would like to get the banking details for my monthly debit order?
  • canonharry : Proud Lion
  • Baylion : It is with great sadness that we announce the retirement of Lions centre Dylan des Fountain. Dylan has suffered a recurring knee injury and has decided to retire from professional rugby. Thank you for all you have done for the Lions, Dylan! You will always be a part of our family
  • Baylion : 13, with Jonsson Workwear coming on board I can only assume that Kit group, a competitor and smaller sponsor, was negotiated out
  • 13 : I noticed the Kit Group logo was no longer on our jerseys yesterday. Have we lost them as a sponsor? Also are we still looking for a Super Rugby sponsor or will we be sponsorless the entire tournament?
  • LV : Golden Lions VC team came away with another 1 point win... they beat the Valke.
  • LV : Lionel Mapoe also put in some good tackles in the VC game.
  • Lion4ever : Good move by Ackers. It will hopefully make Berry a bit more even handed on Saturday.
  • Baylion : «link» Lions coach Johan Ackermann has formally asked for "clarity" on certainly questionable rulings made by referee Jaco Peyper in their encounter with the Sharks last week. Ackermann - who made it clear he is not blaming the match officials for the 23-37 loss in Durban, he laid at the door of a "poor start" by his side and "a lack of discipline" - has written to SANZAR Games Manager Lyndon Bray and South African referees' boss Andr
  • Scrumdown : @jacques 01 & canonharry. It's Izak vd Westhuizen, former Cheetahs now with Edinburg and he's signed a 3 year deal with the Kings.
  • jacques 01 : Who is van der Westhuizen (Lock) that you referring to?
  • canonharry : Here van der Westhuizen (lock) is returning and talking to a union???
  • canonharry : Come back Stokkies
  • Goofy : Is die Bloggers op die site so upset met die verloor dat ons nie n match review kry die week? Of bestaan die review uit 2 woorde - Jaco Peyper.
  • Pofadder : @jacques 01, yes I agree. I thought the ref should have also worn blue camo the way he was helping the Bulls.
  • jacques 01 : How bad was the ref in the Bulls game luckily not ours?
  • jacques 01 : @ Stokkies SR. Totally agree and then he isn't 1st choice in VC. Biggest load of BS. @Canonharry agree with your assessment both against the Bulls and the Sharks we were on the receiving end. Steyn also held back Botha and that split second could have been the difference between a try or not.
  • canonharry : Binding on the arm, playing cleaning the scrumhalf, keeping your eyes on the ball and contesting in the air but concede a penalty, the ball of the foot when Botha missed the try? etc etc , real rubbish desisions and we got the worst
  • canonharry : On Peyper the sharks was the better team on the night I salute a Lions team that can and did compete and will beat even the sharks by seasons end.
  • Number12 : So after 4 games, the Lions have 8 points. The Lions certainly showed promise at times during these matches but have a few short comings which cost them. In the front row, strong scrums is often off setted by illegal scrum penalties which either release pressure on the opposition or results in points against the Lions (although I have to say that some of the calls against the Lions at scrum time, especially in the Bulls game seemed a bit strange). Someone to keep an eye on, is Malcolm Marx,
  • stokkies snr : You have played 4 outside centres in 4 games, that was the coaches choice when they decided who they want to back or not, they just ignored Stokkies and called him out of form, big confidence builder for him, get a life.
  • stokkies snr : You need to back a player, por form has a reason , wake up
  • Lion4ever : Injury, poor form in the warm ups. He is a good enough player to bounce back.
  • King Steve : How the Hell dis Stokkies go from 1st choice to 6th?
  • Lion4ever : 15. Chrysander Botha 14. Deon van Rensburg 13. JW Jonker 12. Stefan Watermeyer 11. Ruan Combrinck 10. Marnitz Boshoff 9. Faf de Klerk 8. Warren Whiteley (c) 7. Warwick Tecklenburg 6. Jaco Kriel 5. Franco van der Merwe 4. Franco Mostert 3. Julian Redelinghuys 2. Robbie Coetzee 1. Schalk van der Merwe 16. Willie Wepener 17. Jacques van Rooyen 18. Ruan Dreyer 19. MB Lusaseni 20. Willie Britz 21. Ross Cronje 22. Courtnall Skosan 23. Coenie van Wyk
  • Tascha : I read the Other day your attitude determines, the out come and if you want something bad enough you can have it, Well i think our Boys want to win more than the other Team and that is what they make happen you know like the law of attraction the thoughts you send out are what you get back? Well that is my opinion and why i think we are playing such amazing rugby!!!
  • Lion4ever : Still slow I the loosies.
  • Simba : Very strong BB team. They wanna take us on in the line outs with VM, JdP, vdM and GH as well at the breakdowns and scrums. Lots of bulk. d
  • Lion4ever : Beware of the wounded Bull. But we had a good win against them in the CC last year. And this side is not a respecter of reputation or records. I am confident of a Lions win on Saturday.
  • Johan : Agreed, Think the fact of their exodus of senior player really hurt them. We know all to well what impact that has on a union, but underestimating their capability's will be very foolish. They still have a lot of bite once they hit their straps.
  • LV : The Bulls are the most vulnerable I've seen in a decade!
  • LV : I know, they have been shocking. The question is - can they have 3 crappy games in a row and can the Lions have 3 blinders in a row. Is such a thing possible? Both teams are prisoners of their past.
  • Johan : I am very careful predicting a huge win for the Lions, Loftus will be a tough battle as all Jukskei derby's has been in the past. Although this year it seems that the Bulls are very poor and looks out of it.
  • LV : Hey Johan, despite the results, surely think that we can beat the Bulls in Pta is extremely bold.... can you just imagine?
  • LV : I do have a bachelors party on Saturday (my freinds) so I guess I will be recklace and irresponsible regardless of what happens at Loftus.
  • Johan : Lol..I agree with LV I will have to do something silly as well. I think the Lions will force them into making mistakes as they will be trying too hard. Hopefully the Lions will keep composure like last week.
  • Tascha : No No NO we are gonna make it 3 out of 3 and the irresponsible thing you will be doing is drinking :)
  • LV : Hey Tascha! I don't know what to think... I know we've won 2 and the Bulls have lost 2, but they still have a few Springboks and plenty more SR caps than we do. If we win 3 in a row, I'll have to do something really irresponsible on Saturday night then.
  • LV : Hey Tascha! I don't know what to think... I know we've won 2 and the Bulls have lost 2, but they still have a few Springboks and plenty more SR caps than we do. If we win 3 in a row, I'll have to do something really irresponsible on Saturday night then.
  • Johan : Hey Tascha, hoe gaan dit...dis way te stil hier..waar is Willa en almal?
  • Tascha : mmm ek reken die Leeus gaan n bleddie goeie show gee en ons gaan daai bulle ore aan sit
  • Tascha : Elooo Johan :)
  • Johan : More almal so wat is die gedagtes omtrent die bulle op loftus die naweek? Bly om te sien die stadium was toe nie n problem laas saterdag nie.
  • Tascha : elooo almal
  • LV : You can never replace a man like Minnie. The only small mercy is that we have quality depth in the loose forwards.
  • spuddy : That is terrible news for Minnie and the Lions
  • golions : Simba. he broke his cheek bone in 2 places and will be out for 12 weeks
  • Simba : Has anyone got any news on Minnie's injury?
  • Tascha : elooo was jare laas hier, hoe verander ek my pp?
  • canonharry : Ellispark was the place to be last night, The subtle little team things this team does is what makes them special, take a bow coach and team. Your values are tangible !!
  • Mr-T : Lions you beauties!!. WoW, awesome win.
  • Mr-T : Lions you beauties!!. WoW, awesome win.
  • canonharry : Should I stay home..mmm and the 50 friends ..But a valid point Johan
  • Lion4ever : Johan, I hope this wont be the case.
  • Johan : Havent logged in for a long time always read though..I have a concern regarding the crowd for our game this weekend. Against the Kings it was like the team was shell shocked at the packed stadium, wondering if this will be a bad thing for us this weekend. What do you all think about that?
  • canonharry : just joined pool. making lions win is simple just pick them to loos in super bru result is always opposite , I have years of research and experience to proof that
  • Mr-T : It is 15 Feb 2014, and its the start of the Super 15. (cheetahs vs Lions), can not wait. Oh yea and the Valentine's day chocolates are half price...hahahaha ha. GO LIONS!!
  • Ed_the_Lion : Baylion is the man in charge
  • Ed_the_Lion : Called sploggers
  • Ed_the_Lion : homyloon
  • Ed_the_Lion : Here is the pool code canon
  • Lion4ever : I see Jonsson Workwear is a new associate sponsor. What will happen to the KIT Group, and we are still waiting for the headline sponsor.
  • canonharry : where do we play superbru this year? pool name?
  • King Steve : Very, Very disappointed that Stokkies didn't make the cut
  • LV : Hey OP.... not given up, just a little more cautious and phylisophical. Will continue to support this team no less till the day they bury me in my red and white coffin, beneath that halfway line in Ellis Park Stadium!
  • Original Pierre : Crap, I hope you all haven`t given up hope after that 14 - 57 ??
  • Original Pierre : Hi Guys, I`m back.
  • Roftie : Hallo
  • Roftie : Weet iemand wat die score is asb
  • Ice : Hulle benodig asb 'n borg vir hempde - totale koste R3600. Dis vir die Noordelike Bonde dag. Dis die TOP 10 Refs en 5 addisionele refs se hempde. 7 uit die 15 is Nasionale refs. Kan iemand salk help?
  • Ice : Hi Ouens, ek benodig hulp asb! Ons het 'n klomp LRU Refs by ons skool.
  • Ice : Hahaha, ja, as always! looking forward to some rugby!
  • LV : Howzit Ice. Good timming - just before the Lions play the Sharks....
  • Ice : Hi Guys!! Long time!
  • LV : Yep, sorry about that. The Lions got the penalty try - not the Bulls. Final score - Lions 26; Bulls 24. I've updated the article.
  • mufasa62 : According to LionsWorld FB website the Lions won 26-24, Some confusion here?
  • LV : 80th min - Lions score.. conversion missed. Bulls win 26 - 24
  • LV : Guy Cronje's kicking radar not in tune. Another 3 pointer missed.
  • LV : Hollenbach is okay. Bulls playing pretty well now
  • LV : Hollenbach down, Could be serious.
  • LV : 67 mins - Bulls strike, penalty try awarded. Lions 19; Bulls 26
  • LV : Lions attack beginning to gel.
  • LV : Cyle Brink (no.7) looking very impressive.
  • LV : Try Stokkies! Lions 19; Bulls 19
  • LV : Good start to 2nd half. Try Martin Muller from a 5m lineout - Lions 14; Bulls 19
  • LV : Lions concede immediately. Cronje's clearance charged down - Lions 7; Bulls 19
  • LV : Lions hit back - Lions 7; Bulls 12
  • LV : Lions defense up to same old tricks. Bulls good on attack though. 35 mins - Lions 0; Bulls 12
  • LV : 30 mins - Lions 0; Bulls 7
  • jacques 01 : Wanneer weet ons hoe ons span gaan lyk teen die Kings en die Vodacom span teen die Bulle?

The Battle of the Big Chokers

Barring the Crusaders, the rest of the semi finalists were all chokers – and big ones at that too. And with the record – holding Kiwis now finally ejected from the games, one of the remaining teams will be called Super Rugby Champions and the other will be known as the choker of all chokers!

Super Rugby 2012 – Final Chapters

While the Lions are left to deal with the controversy that never seems to be too far away from them, two South African teams and two New Zealand teams are left in the competition. Now it is no longer club verses club it is 2 rival rugby nations that will be hell bent on winning glory not only for themselves, but for their Father Lands and countrymen.

Mitchell’s Golden Parachute… Ehemmm Disciplinary Proceedings to Start Today

The Lions may not be playing any rugby at the moment, but still find it hard to keep away from controversy. Head Coach John Mitchell will begin his formal disciplinary proceedings this morning and I am sure that between the 2 parties some kind of financially crippling solution will be reached.

Can the Lions Trump the Bulls?

Could this be the last Super 15 preview for the Lions as we currently know them to be for some to come? A question that is almost as daunting as the prospect of taking on the Bulls at
Loftus on Saturday.

Lions Name Almost Unchanged Team for Bulls Clash

There were 2 doubtful starters at the beginning of the week. Thankfully Lionel Mapoe has recovered enough to be selected but Franco van der Merwe didn’t make it.

Grant Hattingh Leaves for the Bulls

There can certainly be cause for litigation against SARU now as apart from the loss in sponsorship revenue and sponsorship exposure, a player has specifically left the Lions as a result of the uncertainty surrounding their Super Rugby future.

Little Lions Cause Major Upset at Craven Week

The Golden Lions caused a major upset yesterday at the Craven Week when they defeated the much fancied KZN team in an enthrawling encounter, deemed to be the match of the day.

I’m a Lion, and always will be

I have been at times very critical of the Lions players over this season, not just due to the results but due to their individual performances. Some have been deserving and some have not, and with all the uncertainty of 2013, I want to re-affirm my uncompromising and undying support for the GLRU and the Lions players.
