I have been at times very critical of the Lions players over this season, not just due to the results but due to their individual performances. Some have been deserving and some have not, and with all the uncertainty of 2013, I want to re-affirm my uncompromising and undying support for the GLRU and the Lions players.
We expected a lot after the Currie Cup Victory in 2012, and yes we had reason to be positive and expect a better season than we’ve had over the last few years, but with all the injuries the Lions have had, who really expected better?
When you lose close to 17 of your first choice match 22 players throughout the season, expecting success is just a ridiculous and logically stupid expectation. And I have been guilty of it.
I am a Lion at heart, always have been, and I apologise to each and every player that I have offended or criticized unfairly over the last two seasons. No player goes onto the field to lose. Some critique was deserving, but emotional outbursts and accusations is unacceptable and I apologize to all Lions players and Supporters for this.
If the Lions get kicked out of SupeRugby 2013, which I still believe won’t happen, I will still don the Lions jersey with pride.
I’m a Lions supporter and I always will be. Every player that wears the white and red has my complete admiration and unconditional support. I’m at the Park almost every game, I never miss a game on TV. I always have the new and latest Lions gear, and this will never stop.
Being a Lions Supporter is one of the hardest things to do sometimes, but I’d rather support an under-performing team than walk around with the arrogance and self admiration that some of the other union’s supporters do.
We’re a loyal bunch, and those still proudly wearing the Lions jersey, will always be here.
To the players, it’s been a disappointing season, but I don’t think any of us are as disappointed as you are after a bad game. Go out against the Bulls, and give it your best, whether you win or lose, we will still be here.
You still have the Currie Cup to defend later this season.
